In the summer of 2006, HELP founder Wei Liu received the generous donation of RMB 14,775 (~ US$1,640) collected by Ms. Carmen Wagner and her students from Switzerland. This donation allowed us to buy more than 500 books, dictionaries, and maps and 55 backpacks for the students in the four remote primary schools in Wolong Nature Reserve. Through discussions with the teachers we decided that it would be best to keep most books in the schools to establish small libraries for all children living in surrounding areas regardless of whether or not they were enrolled in the schools. Part of the donation was also used to support the part-time teachers for their extra efforts in taking care of the libraries. These activities received extensive praises from the kids, their parents, the teachers and the village heads.
