2010/06/28 Mr. Wang Haibo, HELP’s collaborator, has been leading a team of volunteers working in Yushu for over 70 days in Yushu since the first week after the 4.14 earthquake. Haibo provided the first-hand information on tent needs in late April and HELP worked with Wolong Nature Reserve to delivered 380 tents in late April to Yushu.
Recently, Haibo informed us that the local government just decided not to build prefabricated housing for the earthquake victims, who would have to live in tents over the coming winter. Better and warmer housings are specifically needed by families with seniors and babies over the long and cold winter in Yushu, with an average altitude above 4000 m. Haibo's team also set up 10 water cleaning systems in Yushu, which are currently settled in tents donated by HELP and Wolong Nature Reserve in April. These water cleaning systems also need warmer shelters to ensure their functionality over the winter.
Here we call for any information on used prefabricated housing systems, especially in the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake-affected regions, or potential donations to support purchasing and transporting the housings to Yushu. Please contact HELP if you can help through email or phone -
