HELP has been paying close attention to the water deficit problem of Weimin School since late 2009. Through working with Xichang Tongcheng Gongyi we came up with an estimated budget of ~ 60,000 RMB (~US$ 9000). In the last two months, HELP has made contact with another NGO, Oversea Chinese Education Fund (OCEF), to discuss potential collaboration on building a new water supply system for Weimin School. OCEF is a US-based NGO working on supporting education, especially to help the disadvantaged children in the vast rural areas of China obtain basic education. Through several rounds of information exchange, HELP and OCEF has come up with an agreement on co-funding the contruction of a new clean water rsupply system for Weimin School.
The contruction plan will be based on the design made in Jan. 2010. Clean water will be drawn from water sources at 4 km away from the school and three water pools (intake, buffer and storage pools) will be contructed. Two shower room will also be built for the school’s girls and boys respectively. Two solar-powered water heating systems will also be installed to provide hot water for the shower rooms. The total budget of this project will be RMB 63460 (~US$ 9,300), in which HELP will cover RMB 35,900 and OCEF will cover RMB 27,560. The contruction will be undertaken by Xichang Jinhao Solar Power Inc. from late March to around April 10th. |
