Sept. 25th, Sanjiang, Caoping and Xicao villages are two out the nine villages with territory inside Wolong Nature Reserve for Giant Pandas. Community-based conservation is important for panda and forest conservation in these areas. The Sanjiang Conservation Station of Wolong Nature Reserve had extensive experience on conducting various projects in these communities to help both the people and the nature. HELP has collborated with the station in the past to build new water pipe system in CAoping village and support medical consultation to villages.
In the post-earthquake reconstruction one water storage pool was constructed for each village, which is far from enough for households living far away from each other in this mountainous rural area. Suggested by the Sanjiang Conservation Station, HELP provided RMB 24,920 for the material and transporation costs of three water storage pools and water pipeline. While we are happy with the facts that 100% of the over 200 households are receiving enough water supply from their water pipes with the completion of these water pools, we also hope that these efforts can have long-term implications for the conservation work in the Sanjiang part of Wolong Nature Reserve.
