June 10th, Wolong and Gengda townships, HELP's volunteers works with the local hospitals on disease prevention propoganda and health education.
The confirmation of the first H1N1 patient in the Sichuan province in May 2009 made this emerging global issue a real problem that rural Chinese need to face, but few locals in mountainous China know enough about this disease, its symptoms, and the ways of prevention. It also happened that about 10 kids in the Wolong and Gengda townships in Wolong Nature Reserve were diagnosed to have hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) recently. Many local people showed their worries about these diseases recently. As a response, HELP's medical project leader in Wolong, Ms. Xi Qinghua, who also works in the Wolong Township Health Center, worked with Wei Liu in Wolong to search for information about these dieseases on the internet and made printouts about the basic facts and ways of prevention on them. With the help of other HELP volunteers, hundreds of flyers were passed to and pasted in each of the six villages in Wolong and Gengda townships.
As the summer is appraoching the high-elevation Wolong and Gengda townships, HELP is actively working with the health centers in each township on this year's 2nd round of medical consultation project. |
